Branson was founded in 1903 by two men planning an industrial area that would provide lumber and manufactured goods to the rest of the United States and the world.  This idea never took off and the conception of a resort town was created.  In 1912 Branson had roughly 1,200 residents.  In 1914, the women of Branson banded together and created parks, parades, ceremonies and a Lake Taneycomo municipal beach.  The beach was a welcoming attraction for tourists of neighboring large cities.  The first show in Branson arrived in 1957 named, the Baldknobbers.  The show is named after a vigilante group created in the late 1800’s intended to decrease crime in the Ozark Mountains.

Branson has now become one of the top vacation destinations in the United States.  This small town of 7,000 residents offers visitors over 100 music performances per day, theme parks, three lakes, outlet mall shopping, resorts and fine dining restaurants.  You can find additional Branson, MissouriHistorical Site links on the left hand navigation table.
